EYFS Acoustic Futures
‘EYFS Acoustic Futures’ is a pilot programme which engages primary schools in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham in exploring different ways of embedding music in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). It will strengthen the music skills of the Early Years workforce and their ability to create musical environments and use play-based approaches in settings, offering children aged 4-5 new opportunities to listen to and make music, including using instruments and technology. The project will culminate in the creation on a Toolkit for early years teachers, and a mobile showcase describing the ways in which the project has supported teacher’s journey towards a more embedded musical practice.
The objectives of the programme are:
- Innovation: trialling a new way of approaching music and learning in the EYFS through using Minute of Listening.
- Collaboration: connecting schools and EY music practitioners so that they can learn from each other and develop and share their practice.
- Support: strengthening the EY sector in Barking and Dagenham by listening and responding to the needs of Early Years Professionals.
